Caffeine and Alcohol

Alcohol and Caffeine

I’ll take alcohol first.

We all know that Alcohol causes dehydration right, er hangovers!! ☹

One of the reasons for that is that it has a Diuretic effect.  This means it makes us pass urine more.  Alcohol- induced water loss can lead to the additional loss of such minerals as magnesium, potassium, calcium and zinc, which are not only important nutrients but are also involved in the maintenance of fluid balance and nerve and muscle action.

Caffeine is not on the same scale as alcohol, in fact it’s unlikely tea wouldn’t cause dehydration.  If you are drinking expressos all day though you will likely get the diuretic effect.

Moderation people 😊
